VCON is run by the not-for-profit WCSFA society. We offer advertising space in our materials to help offset the cost of printing them and fund the convention. If you have a product or service that you would like to promote to hundreds of science fiction and fantasy fans, please review the advertising information and rates below.

Additional questions about advertising with VCON should be directed to the VCON Advertising Coordinator at adve{click-to-expand}@vcon.ca. (Click the '...' to access the full email address)

Website Advertising

All our Website advertising is offered through Project Wonderful. We chose this service because we felt their advertising model was much more fair to advertiser and publisher alike than traditional online ad services. Project Wondeful sells ads through their innovative Infinite Auction Model: advertisers make bids on advertising spots and, as long as they are the high bidder, their ad will be displayed! Advertisers can bid whatever price they like for as long as they like: two days, a week, a year - it's their choice, and they are only charged for the time their ad is actually shown in that spot. Advertisers can even choose to bid $0 for short periods of time, allowing them to get a little free advertising whenver there is no one else making a higher bid.

Although anyone can make a bid for VCON ad space we do not blindly approve every bid we receive. We are particular about what products, services and information we wish to have associated with our convention so we review each potential advertiser individually so we can approve those that we believe should appeal to our core audience of science-fiction and fantasy fandom.

We currently offer the following ad block options through Project Wonderful. Click on the links to be taken to a page where you can learn more about Project Wondeful's method of web-advertising and then sign up so you can advertise with VCON.

Notes

  • The VCON Program Book has pages of 8.5 inches horizontally by 11 inches vertically (8.5" x 11"; standard US Letter size in portrait orientation).
  • There is a margin of 0.5" on all four sides, so the printing area is reduced by 1" in each dimension, giving a full page dimensions of 7.5" wide x 10" high.
  • Ad copy for the Program Book must be digitally submitted print-ready, as a graphic in any of the following formats: TIFF, PNG, GIF, BMP, or JPEG. (We advise caution with choosing JPEG. This file format is optimized for photos, and non-photo elements--text, logos, artwork--often do not come out crisply.)
  • We recommend using at least 300 dots-per-inch (300 dpi) or pixels equivalent to 300 dpi (as given above). (300 dpi is a rule-of-thumb minimum for good-looking print. More is fine. Less will also be accepted, but your ad may end up looking blocky.)
  • You have the full dimensions/pixels of your ad space to use, but we recommend including margins as part of your layout, so that your ad does not bump right up against other ads or surrounding content. We recommend a quarter-inch (0.25" or 75 pixels at 300 dpi) clearance.
  • If you are purchasing a black and white space, please send your copy in black and white or greyscale. Only send colour copy if you are purchasing colour space, as a colour ad converted to greyscale may not look as nice as you would like, and we do not offer graphic design or proofing services.
